Section 609 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires technicians who service motor vehicle air conditioning (MVAC) systems to be certified — an open-book exam you can complete online in minutes.

Servicing MVAC includes repairing, leak testing, and topping off air conditioning systems low on refrigerant — as well as any other repair to the vehicle that requires dismantling any part of the air conditioner.
The Section 609 Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning exam is an open book test, chosen by Robinair, White, and many other equipment manufacturers.

Pass, and you're certified.
Persons who pass the open-book exam are awarded a wallet ID card and a wall certificate upon completion. A score of 84% — 42 correct out of 50 questions — is required to pass.
